Zambo Sur police receive new motorcycles

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, April 21 (PNA) –- The local police received a boost in terms of mobility with the distribution of new motorcycles by Camp Crame through the Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9).

Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, provincial police director, said Tuesday his office received 16 units of new motorcycles with complete accessories to be used by the police force in this province.

Chief Supt. Ricardo Zapata Jr., PNP logistics chief, turned over the new motorcycles to Ecaldre last Friday at the PRO-9 headquarters in Zamboanga City.

Ecaldre said the motorcycles will be distributed to the different police stations particularly to those that needed to augment its mobility.

Ecaldre said the 16 motorcycles were part of the 45 units the PRO-9 received from Camp Crame. (PNA)

Zambo Sur police file charges vs. kidnappers of 2 children, bakery worker

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, April 15 (PNA) -- The police have filed criminal charges against five people implicated in the March 31 kidnapping of two children and a bakery worker in the nearby town of Pitogo, this province.

Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, provincial police director, said the charges against the suspects were filed on Monday before the provincial prosecutor’s office.

Ecaldre named the respondents as the follows: Mahbad Hassan and Alkim Hassan, both of Barangay Poblacion, Pitogo; Jalid Malali; Usman Jelanie; and, Usman Hassan all of Barangay Kalintana, Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Ecaldre disclosed that two of the five suspects--Mahbad and Alkim--were arrested a day after 10 gunmen seized the victims but was not immediately announced as investigation is ongoing.

He said investigation showed the suspects have stayed at the residence of Mahbad and pretended to be fresh fish traders while monitoring the movement of their target to be kidnapped.

He disclosed that one of the five suspects--Usman--was captured in a video of the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera of CJ bakeshop of Chzarenia Kapa Sajulga, the kidnapping target.

The suspects seized Ace Jay Garban, three; Zynielle Jay Garban, two; and, Ledegie Tomarong, 17 after they failed to kidnap Sajulga, who locked herself inside a room when the kidnappers swooped down her bakery.

The Garban children are grandchildren of Pitogo Mayor Richard Garban.
The suspects grabbed the two children and Tomarong, who were at the fish port and escaped by using them as human shields during a shootout with pursuing policemen.

The suspects killed Zynielle Jay, whose body was fished out from sea by fishermen on April 3 near the shore of Pitogo town.

The kidnappers have demanded PhP60 million or at PhP30 each in exchange for the release of Garban and Tomarong.

Ecaldre said policemen in coordination with the military are continuously tracking down the whereabouts of the victims. (PNA)

Joint gov’t operatives nabs 7 suspects of illegal drug trade in Kumalarang

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (April 5, 2015) ---The joint government operatives arrested 7 suspects of illegal drug trade and confiscation of more than 50 grams of shabu in Sunday dawn raid at Barangay Boyugan West in the nearby town of Kumalarang of this province.

The raid was lead by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) together with the members of Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office, Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operation Team and the Provincial Investigation Detective Management Branch (PIDMB) who successfully arrested 2 0f the 7 personalities listed in the warrant of arrest (WOA) and another 5 others were handcuffed during the raid.

PDEA Region-9 director Josep C. Ladip said the raid conducted at the 7 houses Sunday at 2:30 dawn as the result of 2 months surveillance operations.

Ladip identified the 2 of the 7 personalities involved in illegal drugs trade as Jabide Ladjas y Abdulah aka ‘Beds’, 51, Barangay Kagawad of Boyugan West and Ayang Edris y Lamangan 41, a resident also in the same barangay. 

Ladip said the 5 others listed in the WOA were not around during the raid while the 5 other arrested were drug users identified as Abdul Modakil y Tampipi, 32, of Boyugan West; Melvin Solliano y Ornopia, 23 of Barangay Picanan; Claudio Buctuan y Donor, 38 of Barangay Sayao; Yosup Dacula y Calcedo, 35 of Poblacion and Husain Edris y Tampipi, 41 also of Boyugsn West all of Kumalarang town.

The PDEA Director added that the confiscated illegal drugs had an estimated market value of Php80,000.

Kumalarang Mayor Eugenio Salva Jr. said that he already warned the people in the barangay but their illegal drug trade still continue. He also expressed his gratitude to the law enforcement agencies for the successful operations against illegal drugs in one of his 18 barangays.

Mayor Salva also confirmed that Barangay Boyugan West located along the national highway near the boundary of Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay was noted being involved in illegal drug trade since he was a Vice Mayor.

Salva is hopeful that the illegal drug trade of the said barangay will be totally eradicated or stop following the raid by the PDEA and police operatives.
