PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Nov. 3 (PNA) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) said the observance of All Saints and All Souls days was generally peaceful in this province.

Zamboanga del Sur police director Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre said no untoward incidents related to the observance of “Undas” was reported in this province.

Ecaldre has placed the entire police force on red alert in this province in line with the observance of “Undas.”

He said that random checkpoints were established along the national highway particularly in the boundaries of Tukuran town with Lanao del Norte; Tambulig municipality with Misamis Occidental; Josefina with Zamboanga del Norte; and Kumalarang with Zamboanga Sibugay.

He said tight security measures were also implemented at the Integrated Bus Terminals, public markets, shopping malls, and coastal areas.

Public Assistance Centers were also established in public and private cemeteries in coordination with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and Barangay Emergency Response Teams (BERT).

In this city, rerouting of traffic was implemented to and from the cemeteries aside from the implementation of strict security measures.

The local government has provided a vehicle to ferry people for free within the premises of the cemeteries that were declared off-limits to public utility vehicles.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has launched an advocacy campaign for a fire-free observance of “Undas.”

Local police chief Supt. Glenn Dulawan noted that most of the complaints attended by the Public Assistance Centers’ personnel involved missing graves of their relatives. (PNA)
