Zamboanga del Sur remains under red
alert status following the recent bombing incidents in Zamboanga City and
Pikit, North Cotabato and the abduction of a Korean in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre,
director of the Zamboanga del Sur police, said on Thursday (January 29) the red
alert status had been in place since Tuesday (January 27).
Ecaldre said random checkpoints
along the national highways of the province and the boundaries Lanao del Norte,
Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga Sibugay were established
by the Police Provincial Public Safety Battalion augmented by the Army’s 53rd
and 55th Infantry Battalion.
He added Explosive Ordnance Disposal
teams have been sent to inspect bus terminals and other public places in
Pagadian City.
Col. Alvin Luzon, commanding officer
of the 53rd Infantry battalion, said municipalities along the coastline were
also being monitored. - 9News
